By Jay Stewart Fellow gay guys over 40, let’s take a moment to commiserate over rejection!
We didn’t get the job that we wanted, our bid on that beautiful was denied, and of course, that muscular well-endowed guy shot down our advances. We usually can rationalize that other applicants were better qualified and other bids were higher than ours for the condo.
Yet, like many before me have said, it isn’t the rejection you should focus on, but the way you deal with it and rebound.
Below I’ve outlined 5 facts about rejection that you might not have known and also 5 things you can do to get yourself back on track.
But you must realize that rejection can happen to anyone. You learn to get up and move on faster in the process. When people get rejected by a date, they automatically think that it is their fault.
They begin to blame themselves for the rejection and then get into the loser mode. Do not always think that the reason for the rejection is all about you. He or she may be blind or overlook what you have to offer.
I'd love to say the world is an integrated utopia, but people tend to hang out with others with similar backgrounds or interests.
Let's say you're looking for a guy that has an interest in theater; then join a local theater group or hang out at local venues frequented by theater lovers.
Because our ancestors survived by being a part of a tribe, this need remains inside us and means that memories of rejection are stronger and more easily remembered than those of physical pain.
Then there are those who lock themselves in their apartments and wallow in their pain until their egos have recovered.
Others may resort to more self-destructive behavior, like drinking or gambling or some other form of high-risk behavior.
It seems that the feeling of rejection and the emotional pain it causes is enough to fog rational thinking and actually reduce a person’s IQ, especially when it comes to short-term memory tasks and particularly decision-making.
As gays over 40, we’ve faced it at different times in our lives.
